Geoff, Eric2 and myself (Eric1) at Donut Falls (at different times)

Geoff and I recently hiked to Donut Falls, one of Utah’s gems.  It’s a stream that falls through a hole in the granite and has carved out a small cave.

E2 and I went earlier in the season, before the snow had melted.  The climb up to the fall is pretty steep.  Adding snow to it makes it almost impossible.

It’s a short little hike if you’re ever in the area.

BYU College Girls Aug. 2012

Hello Family!

We got home late last night from taking Melissa and Jessica to BYU-Provo!  We moved Melissa into Heritage Halls and Jessica into her apartment South of campus.  It was a big day!  Melissa has a week of freshman activities and classes will start for both of them next Monday.  It’s strange to come home and just have the 4 kids.  The dynamics are always changing.  Melissa left me with 2 birds, 1 fish and a wall of plants to keep alive!  Wish me luck.

Just an update on the rest of the family.(More to help me, so I can keep it all straight).
Jacob is 17 and a Junior in high school.  Audrey is 15 and a Sophomore.  Amanda is 12 and starting 7th grade in the Jr. high.  We are getting up before 5:30 every morning to get her to volleyball practice.  Madeline is 10 and in 5th grade.

Scott and Jacob put up 2nd crop hay in record time and were able to get a good start on the grain harvest before Jacob started school last Wednesday.  We are all healthy and well.  Life is good!
Love you all!
Melanie

Two of the pictures are from the week before when Jessica, Melissa and I made a quick trip to St. George.  It was good to see Mom!

Alaskan Cruise 2012

Ed and I had a wonderful time in Alaska. I had a nice chat with Sarah Palin.  Took lots of pictures of ice (yes, that is a glacier behind me and it was cold! No, I didn’t include any ice pictures). Got rained on in Ketchecan and blown on in Skagway (very windy). We loved our first trip for a whole week without children.

Calvin stayed with his friend at their cabin for the week and worked hard moving a ton of rocks and having Nerf gun battles. Simon loved Scout Camp and got up at 6AM 3 days in a row to earn the mile swim badge. He informed me he didn’t take a shower the whole week, but did change his clothes every day. Aren’t boys wonderful!

I would  do another Alaskan Cruise in a heart beat!

Warm River Bike Ride Aug. 2012

Hi Family!

The site has been quiet for a few days so I thought I’d add something.

We’ve discovered some bike trails in beautiful country less than 2 hours away!  Jessica, Jacob, Madeline and I took our bikes to Ashton, Idaho, about 1 1/2 hours away and enjoyed a beautiful ride on a rail trail along Warm River.  It took us one hour and 45 minutes to go up and 45 minutes to coast down.  Madeline was a trooper on the uphill side.  We took lots of breaks going up, even discovering a wild raspberry patch!  That was the only rest stop we took on the way down.  We’ll have to go back because there is much more to the trail and so much more to see.  A rail trail, for those who may not know, was once a railway line which has now been converted to a bike path.

Love you all!
Melanie
