enjoying pictures

Dear Precious Eight [plus families],
Eric patiently got me started on this site last night.  No news here.  I’m fine.
I am enjoying every message, memory, and picture.  Thanks so much.  Love, MOM

Memory of Idaho Falls Fireworks

Hi Family!

We enjoyed the Idaho Falls fireworks again this year.  The 31 minute show used over 17, 500 shells.  They shot off 500 more than last year, which comes to over 9 shells per second.  Awesome!

Remembering our reunion last year was bittersweet for me.  I miss Dad but am grateful for the time we all got to enjoy with him last year.  This was Lynette’s picture of Mom and Dad.  I like it because it reminds me of Dad’s fun nature and I like seeing Mom’s enjoyment of the moment.

Love,
Melanie

Hope you had a great 4th of July!

Some of you Men may not want to read the following! It may make you cry!

Calvin Jue on July 4th made a whole lot of grown men cry and a few were very disgusted! Ed is in a state of shock and still can’t believe it. I’ve been fanning Ed and serving him ice cream to calm his nerves.

Ed, Simon and Calvin all entered a Rib Cook Off at Sunset Cabana Club (judging held on the 4th).  The Firemen from the fire station down the street from the club were the judges. Said it was the best 911 call they ever received! Well Calvin won 3rd Place. All of Calvin’s swim buddies were patting him on his back and the Dads were trying to find out his rib recipe. Which Calvin said was a secret. Yep, Calvin is really 10 years old and that’s why the men were crying ‘cause they lost to a kid.

Happy 4th of July – Calvin is working on perfecting his recipe so he may place 2nd in 2013!

Love you all and we’ll have to have everyone over for ribs!

Jon's study abroad in London

Since Jon didn’t get the internship he wanted, he decided to pick up a few more credits on study abroad.  He’s still on schedule to graduate this December.  In this set of pics you’ll see him:

-in the Globe Theater (Shakespeare)

-in a pub

-at West Minster Abbey (with his group)

-in the “Tube”

-on the Millennium Bridge

-straddling the Prime Meridian

SVU has  given him some great opportunities.

Great News!

We are so happy to announce that Lee and Kelly are officially engaged!  We don't know dates or details.  We just want you to be happy with us!  Love Renee

Newman Family Razor Ride June 30, 2012

Hello family!

If you come visit we will take you here!

It’s about an hour away, near Spencer, Idaho.  Spencer is where the largest opal mine in our nation is found.  The only other larger opal mine is found in Australia.  I’ve heard that for a fee you can go in and dig.  I have yet to try it.  Come and let’s dig for opals together!  That would have to be a separate trip from the 4-wheeler ride though.

Love,
Melanie

Boys swim meet today!

Simon and Calvin had a fun swim meet against Ruby Hills swim Team. The theme for our meet was “Star Wars” so we have Ewok Calvin and Darth Ewok Simon. Yes it Is cold in the morning but did warm up nicely. Boys stayed toasty warm in their costumes. And I made them! Go Sunset! That’s our swim team name. I think Dennis us to lifeguard there way back when.

Hartford, CT

We took amtrak from Penn Station in NYC to Connecticut for the second week of our trip. The main attraction of this adventure was to see G3 and Andrea and the kids and it was a fantastic week. It definitely went too fast. Lydia is six months and little grant is 2 1/2. I couldn't get enough of them. The guys helped g3 with projects around the house including electrical, cleaning up the yard. Josh mowed their huge front lawn. It took two passes as it was the first mow since they've been in the house. The blizzard last fall knocked some trees down, so the guys cut up the wood for firewood. The forest around their home is gorgeous. Amanda and I helped paint Lydia's room. It was also Jared's birthday while we were there, so a couple of the pictures are from Texas Roadhouse. The Perkis Power tshirt is for those who remember the movie "Heavyweights". That is his new exercise tshirt.

We had such a great time. I'm looking forward to visiting g3 and Andrea again and as soon as possible :) Hope you enjoyed a bit of our adventure to the east coast!
