New York City

We arrived at our hotel in the Meat Packing District of Manhattan around midnight. Our separate rooms we rented as a "suite" one with two bunk beds the other with double bed and kitchenette and bathroom. Since they both used an the same outer door, we could be together. All the other rooms on the floor used a shared bathroom in the middle of the hallway. It turned out to be a great place for the sights we wanted to see.

We had two days in New York. Some of the places we visited included the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Natural History Museum, Washington Square Park, Central Park.

I took an 8x10 picture of dad when he was in Times Square in 1948. If perhaps not the same place at least the general area.

So much to see and do in New York. I'm looking forward to a future trip to do and see more!

Palmyra

After a day at Niagara Falls, we spent the next day in Palymra visiting the Hill Cumorah, Smith farm and Sacred Grove. What a wonderful opportunity. The picture of us outside the house is at the Peter Whitmer Farm. Also, the waterfall picture was taken at Watkins Glen, which is at the end of Seneca Lake. We stopped to stretch on our drive across NY state and found this 1 and half mile hike through a gorge filled with waterfalls. Absolutely beautiful. We continued on our drive arriving at Newark, NJ airport to turn in the rental car and took the subway into Manhattan.

Niagara Falls

Hi Family,

Here's the first post of our trip east a couple of weeks ago. The day was rainy, but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm to get wet by the falls also. We spent the day on the Canadian side enjoying the Maid of the Mist boat tour and the tunnels behind the falls. Grant, Josh and I met up with Jared and Amanda in Buffalo and we travelled together through New York state into New York city and then to Hartford for a week to see G3, Andrea and children.

Scott's burned tractor

Hi Family,

Here’s a couple of pictures of our Telehandler that caught fire and burned up while we were away with the family.  Grateful it wasn’t in the shop when it caught on fire.

The Telehandler is a smaller John Deere tractor that Scott uses to load and unload hay and straw.

The other pictures are of me and Scott on a quick trip to find another Telehandler.  Over 1,100 miles through Wyoming to Nebraska and back in two days! Scott got tired of waiting for people stopped on the road taking pictures of the Bison.  We had places to go and people to meet.  So, he slowly passed the cars and pushed through the Bison on the road.  I think it was Scott’s ranch experience of pushing cattle that he was the only person not afraid to do anything.

Solar Eclipse

Eric^2, Jim and I went to Zion to view the annular solar eclipse on May 20, 2012.  We hiked to the top of Angels Landing before we realized that the surrounding cliffs were too high.  So we high-tailed it back down and set up our cameras in Springdale.  It was an annular eclipse which meant the sun wasn’t completely obscured by the moon.  In other words, it looked like a ring around a black disk.

Just before we left for Southern Utah, I discovered that my 8 year old video camera had time-lapse.  So I’m including that video with this post.  Enjoy.

I'm trying it

Hi everyone!

I am in Wyoming with Scott in search of a telehandler.  We took a 10 hour drive yesterday to get here.  Slept at a hotel and Scott’s now talking business with someone in Nebraska, just 20 miles away.  I chose to stay in the hotel and read.  Yeah for me!  We’ll be driving back home in a couple of hours.  Jacob is home taking care of the irrigating so we we could leave for this quick moment.

This is a new experience for me driving across the state of Wyoming.  There are some real pretty places (near the Idaho border) .

Love you all!
Melanie
