Solar Eclipse

Eric^2, Jim and I went to Zion to view the annular solar eclipse on May 20, 2012.  We hiked to the top of Angels Landing before we realized that the surrounding cliffs were too high.  So we high-tailed it back down and set up our cameras in Springdale.  It was an annular eclipse which meant the sun wasn’t completely obscured by the moon.  In other words, it looked like a ring around a black disk.

Just before we left for Southern Utah, I discovered that my 8 year old video camera had time-lapse.  So I’m including that video with this post.  Enjoy.

Great pictures. We were at Melissa's seminary graduation during that time and caught only the last little bit of the eclipse after the graduation was over. I tried to tell Melissa, who was on the seminary council, that she should postpone the graduation because the eclipse would be more interesting.
The area looks so beautiful. You guys look great! The time lapses are cool! I remember we ran outside near the end of the eclipse. Thanks to Jared calling to remind us while he was taking pictures. I remember feeling a change in the outside light but didn't think anything of it until I connected it with the eclipse.
Thanks for capturing this eclipse! Feels like I was there since I missed it.
